West goes wild for Townsville units

CASHED-UP Mount Isa miners are leading the rush to snap up luxury apartments at Townsville's premier beachfront development, according to developer The Lancini Group. Number 98, an exclusive development on Townsville's Strand, has attracted more than $17 million in sales. This has included several sales to buyers from Mount Isa and Queensland's mineral-rich mining towns.

The development was completed in March.

Lancini Group general manager Chris Sherwood said sales and inquiries from the mining sector had exceeded the group's expectations.

"The level of interest in this development from Mount Isa and parts of regional Queensland has been exceptional," Mr Sherwood said.

"Mining executives and senior professionals with links to Townsville have flocked to the development, attracted by its location, quality and security.

"Some of the Mount Isa buyers are using their apartments as a holiday home, while others are using it as a base for their families while they fly out to work at Mount Isa."

Mr Sherwood said only three of the apartments remained for sale. The three bedroom, two bathroom architecturally designed apartments are priced from $750,000.

News reports earlier this year linked Australian sporting superstars Jonathon Thurston and Karrie Webb to the 25-unit development.

The apartments boast views either to Magnetic Island, Strand Park or Castle Hill. Number 98 has a lap pool and entertaining area with barbeques, a fully-equipped gymnasium, secure lobby and gated underground car parking with two parks per apartment.

Mr Sherwood said the success of Number 98 added further proof that Townsville's top-end property market was holding strong.

"Townsville's property market has been one of regional Australia's stand-out performers for the past six years," he said.

"In particular, the luxury property market is still attracting very strong interest from local professionals and investors."

Mr Sherwood said a fully-furnished display apartment was open for inspection.
